The Salzburg Glockenspiel
The palace erected under Wolf Dietrich already had a tower on the west side protruding from the facade, which was raised in 1701/1702 and given a Glockenspiel, a carillon. Its gamut ranges over three octaves with all semitones.
…….. The legendary “The Sound of Music” musical will have its premiere at the Salzburger Landestheater on October 23, 2011. The story of the novice, Maria, who comes to work for the Trapp Family as a governess just before World War II, marries the widower, Georg von Trapp, and becomes famous with the family choir, has been world-famous since the 1965 movie. Whereas thousands of tourists relive the story of Maria von Trapp each year, visiting the film locations where Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer sang, danced and played, the movie and its cult status were largely unknown to the population in Austria and Salzburg for many years.
…this week celebrates its city patron – Saint Rupert! There’s an Old Town Fair going on offering a lot of traditional music and entertainment as well as Austrian delicacies….mmhhh! My favourites are the Gingerbread Hearts, the Turkish Honey, roast chicken, roast pork (Schweinebraten) and the Stiegl Bier… I’m sure Rupert would’ve loved it, too
